Social Events

Monthly lunches

Our main social event is the monthly Members' Lunch held at Thornton Hall Hotel in Thornton Hough, usually on the third Monday of every month. We gather at 11:30 for 12:00 and Club notices are read out before a two course lunch. After lunch, we relax whilst being entertained by a speaker. A wide array of topics is covered - please see the Speakers page. The proceedings generally finish some time after 3:00pm.

Upcoming lunches in 2026 are on 17th August, and 21st September 15 December. Every October, we have our annual Chairman's Lunch to honour the outgoing Chairman. Members' Partners are invited to this lunch. The 2026 Chairman's lunch will be on 19th October and will mark the end of David Cunliffe's year as Chairman. The after lunch speaker will see a return of Bernard Nevin, whose talk this time will be about Brian Epstein and George Martin.

More than 60 members and partners attended the 2025 Chairman's Lunch. In January 2025, our outgoing Chairman, Archie Peat, hosted a very enjoyable Burns Supper, which was attended by over 80 members and partners.

Coffee Mornings

Members can also meet at our weekly Coffee Mornings at the United Reformed Church in Heswall. No need to book, just turn up if you wish to join the lively chat. Full details are on the Coffee Mornings page.

Probus Partners social gatherings

Partners of current and former Probus Members meet once a month, alternating between morning coffee and a lunch in a local hostelry. Partners can just turn up at the coffee mornings but will usually need to book in advance for the bi-monthly lunches. Full details are on the Probus Partners page.
